Great Falls, Mont., August 25, 2022 – The 10th ranked University of Providence snapped a season-opening five game losing streak picking up a 3-0 sweep over Haskell Indian Nations University (Neb.) Thursday night. The Argos set the tone early and were never threatened in the match, winning 25-12, 25-15, 25-10.
Jenna Thorne paced the way with 9 kills adding a solo block and three block assists. Madysen Hoerner had 6 kills, with Jensyn Turner and Zoe Naugle each registering five. Taylor Christensen recorded 21 digs with Taylor DeVries leading the way with 22 assists. The win was refreshing and much needed says Head Coach Arunas Duda, "I think we all needed that one. We've been working hard and have been so close in so many sets and matches, they just needed this one for morale. They finally got to let loose, relax and have fun."
Earlier in the day, the Argos fell in straight sets to Saint Francis, (Ind.) losing 25-23, 25-16, 27-25 and that inability to close sets out reared up again. "It's nerves right now. It's trying to do too much, and we don't know who our go-to is yet." Christensen accounted for 16 digs in the loss to the Cougars with Ryann Eddins leading the way with 7 kills.
Coaches say the biggest changes happen between weeks one and two and Duda says that was the case with his team, "Certainly. We saw it beginning this week in practice. We saw a big change in the work ethic to get the small things done."
Providence will turn around and take on Jamestown, (ND.) Friday night at 7 pm in the second day of the Electric City Invite. The Jimmies rallied from a set down to beat Montana Tech in 5 sets Thursday.
There will be six matches Friday beginning with Tech vs. Arizona Christian at 9 am, followed by The Master's College (Calif.) against Saint Francis, Jamestown vs. Arizona Christian, Saint Francis vs Haskell Indian Nations University, then Tech vs. The Master's.
