Great Falls, Mont. - The University of Providence men's soccer team will finally get a chance to play on its home pitch this weekend as the Argos host The Evergreen State and Northwest University Friday and Saturday. Providence began Cascade Collegiate Conference play last week with a 4-1 loss at Rocky Mountain College. Jesus Pulido scored for the Argos who were playing just their second match of the season. Now, the chance to make a run for the playoffs is front and center. It all starts Friday when the Argos and Geoducks meet up on Friday.
The Geoducks are 2-3 on the season after picking up a 2-1 win over Southern Oregon last week. Evergreen is 1-1 in league play. Providence enters the matchup 0-2, 0-1 in CCC (Cascade Collegiate Conference) play and has used the time between matches to prepare as a unit under first-year coach Will Hander. The Argos will look to guys like Pulido and Gavin Bissell to find the back of the net, while also keeping more pressure on the opponent's defense. Providence has been outshot 34-16 through two games this year, but with guys getting healthier, that should change. Hander says the team is ready to play, "We have had a good week of training and we are getting some of our injured players back to being 100%. I am looking forward to seeing how we perform this weekend against Evergreen and Northwest and having our first matches at home."
The Argos and Geoducks meet up at Argo Field at 3:30 Friday, following the women's match at 1 pm. For live stats and to watch, visit www.upargos.com.
