Great Falls, Mont. - The University of Providence men's soccer team hopes it turned a corner last weekend after picking up a 1-1 draw against Northwest University and will try for the first win under new head coach Will Hander this week as Providence travels to Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech this weekend in Cascade Conference play. The Argos led 1-0 until just over three minutes remained when the Eagles tied it up. That draw came on the heels of a disappointing 3-1 loss the day before to Evergreen State (Wash.).

Friday, the Argos will face Southern Oregon at Raider Stadium, a place where SOU is 30-3-1 since 2017. The Raiders have outshot their opponents this season 146-61 but sit with a record of 4-4 overall, 1-2 in CCC action. Sam Walker has a team leading five goals in 2022 with four other players each with two goals. Noah Addie and Alan Gayton have scored 21 goals apiece in their careers, tied for most in team history. SOU has a 3-2-1 record against the Argos, including last season's 2-0 loss at Argo Field.

Saturday Providence will face off against OIT looking to keep the Owls off the scoreboard for a second straight season. OIT saw its 19-match unbeaten streak end last weekend with a 3-2 loss to Southern Oregon. Cade O'Neill and Andrew Pasang each have two goals this year to pace the offense.

Marcus John has a goal and an assist for Providence, which has scored just four goals in four matches. Mika Lankhof also has a goal after firing one in from 25 yards out in the draw last week with Northwest. The Argos lead the all-time series with OIT 4-3 but suffered a 1-0 loss at home in 2021. Coach Hander says the 0-3-1 Argos can hop into the Cascade mix with two wins this weekend, "If we play well and continue to show the growth we have over the last couple of weeks, we can sneak out a win or two. This is such a great conference for men's soccer that at this point, nothing is given. The guys have worked hard coming off the draw (Saturday) and look to show continued improvement this weekend."

Both matches begin at 3:30 PM MDT on Friday and Saturday with live stats and live streaming available at www.upargos.com.
