MISSOULA, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program split in the pair of games versus the University of Montana this weekend.
In game one, the Argos (5-4) scored the first goal of the contest when freshman
Jonathan O'Brien found senior
Braden Bain for his seventh goal of the season.
Bain would score again a minute later off a pass from freshman
Adam Husli to extend the Argo lead to two.
UP would open the second period scoring just over a minute in when senior
Ty Alger scored a power play goal to give the Argos a three-goal lead.
The Grizzlies (8-9) would respond scoring with five minutes remaining in the second period, but Alger would score his second goal of the game with a minute left to make it 4-1 entering the third period.
Despite pressure by the University of Montana in the final 20 minutes, neither team could find the back of the net as the Argos won the first game of the weekend 4-1.
In game two, the Argos had a chance midway through the first period but freshman
Colby Friedrich's backhand shot was saved by the goaltender.
The Grizzlies would strike first when a shot from the blue line was tipped in to give the University of Montana a 1-0 lead.
UP would answer immediately when freshman
Elliott Venini found Husli with open space, but his shot would be saved by the diving goaltender.
The University of Montana would extend their lead when a rebound chance found the back of the net making it 2-0.
A few minutes later the Argos scored a power play goal when freshman
AJ Belanger rebounded Friedrich's shot and beat the goalie to cut the lead in half.
The Grizzlies would score a shorthanded goal a few minutes later, but the Argos would answer when a pass from behind the net from Alger found senior
Jakob Stevenson's whose wrist shot beat the goalkeeper to keep the game within one.
Despite the Argos having a few chances in the third period, the Grizzlies would add another two goals as UP fell in the second game of the weekend 5-2.
The Argos will be back in action Nov. 16 when they travel to Ogen, Utah for their first matchup of the Beehive Classic. Puck drop versus Weber State is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at Weber County Ice Sheet. Â Â
