BOTTINEAU, N.D. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated #2 Dakota College at Bottineau 3-2 in overtime Friday night.
The Argos (10-4) scored the first goal of the game when freshman
Chavez Constant's shot from the blue line beat the goaltender to give UP a 1-0 lead. Â
The Lumberjacks (8-5) would answer with five minutes remaining in the period when a rebound shot from DCB found the back of the net to tie the game at one.
UP had a scoring chance halfway through the second period but Constant's back hand shot was stopped by the goalie.
A few minutes later the Lumberjacks would take the lead when a pass from behind the net found a DCB attacker who tapped it into the back of the goal. Â
The Argos would threaten early in the third period but were unable to get a clean shot past the stingy Lumberjack defense.
With 13 minutes remaining in the game, senior
Jakob Stevenson would win the face off and find freshman
Elliott Venini whose pass from behind the net found a streaking senior
Ty Alger who beat the goalie to tie the game at two.
UP would have a scoring opportunity with five minutes left, but Stevenson's wrist shot was saved by the goaltender.
It would be back and forth the rest of the way but neither side was able to find the go-ahead goal as the game was sent to overtime.
In the extra period, neither team could capitalize until Constant sent a slapshot from the point that beat the goalkeeper for his second goal of the game to give the Argos a 3-2 overtime victory.
The Argos will be back in action Nov. 25 for their rematch with the Lumberjacks. Puck drop is scheduled for Noon at the Lumberdome.
