Providence to play in Ashland at No. 9-Ranked Raiders

GREAT FALLS, Mont. - The University of Providence softball team has faced three NCAA Division 2 schools this season, as well as a "road" trip home series with No. 19-ranked Eastern Oregon. That has led to an 0-7 start to the season, but the Argos look to build off those early losses and turn them around with a four-game series at No. 9-ranked Southern Oregon this weekend.

The Raiders are 12-4 overall, 5-1 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play. Southern Oregon defeated Eastern Oregon three times out of four games last week led by Ashley Cathey who hit two home runs along with reigning CCC Player of the Week, Riley Donavan who was 8-14 in the series with two home runs and eight RBI. Through the first 16 games of the season, the Raiders are hitting .350 as a team while the pitching staff has pitched to a 2.86 ERA with two shutouts which ranks first in the NAIA.

Donovan is hitting .455 overall with four long balls and 16 RBI. Deja Acosta is hitting at a .396 clip and has driven in 14. In the circle, Cayla Williams leads the way with a 5-2 record, 3.06 ERA with 33 of the team's 77 strikeouts.

For Providence, Gracie Fleming (Jr., Big Timber, Mont.) leads the way hitting .364, Sydney Wilting (So., Havre, Mont.) is next at .333 with Macy Mangold (Jr., Lewistown, Mont.) at .316. Mangold and Taylor Mathews (Sr., Helena, Mont.) each have a home run on the season while Karlie David (Sr., Bay City, Mich.) leads the team with three RBI.

Jaden Williams (Sr., Sandy, Utah) is 0-4 in the circle with a 13.13 ERA and Carter Thornton (Sr., Downey, Idaho) is 0-2 with an ERA of 6.67. Those two have combined to start all seven games for Providence (0-7, 0-3).

The first three games of the series will count towards the CCC standings with the final game Saturday being a non-conference matchup. Friday's doubleheader starts at 2 p.m. MST with Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. MST. To watch live stats and the live stream, visit www.upargos.com.
