BOISE, Idaho. – The University of Providence hockey program dominated Utah Valley University Friday night winning their first game of the season 10-2.

Early in the first period the Utah Valley forecheck kept the puck in the Argos zone, but the UP defense remained strong fighting off the Wolverines attacks.

The Argos would strike first when senior Braden Bain took the puck behind the net and found freshman Colby Friedrich in front of the net who beat the goaltender for his first goal of the season.

A few minutes later the Argos had a four on three advantage and Freidrich blew by the defenders and went five-hole to beat the goalie and extend the Argo lead to two.

With three minutes left in the first period the Argos power play broke through when Freidrich found freshman Adam Husli for his first goal of the year.

UP kept the pressure on with 45 seconds left when Friedrich found Bain to make it 4-0. Fredrich had two assists and two goals in the first period.

The Wolverines would strike back early in the second period when a breakaway opportunity found the back of the net to make it 4-1.

The Argos would bring the lead back to four after freshman Tobias Robinson took it behind the net and found freshman Jonathan O'Brien whose short side shot snuck past the goaltender.

With half a second left in the second period the Argos would score another off of a Wolverine turnover that was corralled by Husli and shot into the back of the net.

The Argos would strike again in the third period when a loose puck in front of the net was pushed past the goaltender by Husli for his third goal of the game and the first hat trick of his career.

Moments later a rebound went off the boards and in front of the Wolverine net where Bain was waiting and beat the goaltender for his second goal of the game.

With 14 minutes left in the third the Argos capitalized on a four on three advantage when Husli's drive to the net gave him his fourth goal of the night.

The Wolverines would answer back cutting the Argo lead to seven, but senior Jakob Stevenson scored a short-handed breakaway goal to give UP a 10-2 advantage.

Despite back and forth action the final few minutes, the Argos remained defensively sound winning their first game of the season 10-2.

The Argos will be back in action tomorrow versus Boise State University. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. (MDT) at Idaho Ice World.
