BOISE, Idaho. – The Argos avenged their opening night loss defeating Boise State University 7-4 Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos jumped ahead early in the first period when a cross found the Boise State forward to make it 1-0.
The Argos would answer a few minutes later when freshman
AJ Belanger received senior
Jakob Stevenson pass to tie the game at one. This was Stevenson's 76
th point of his career which places him third all-time in Argo hockey history.
Stevenson would add to his record setting night on a power play when he received a pass from senior
Ty Alger to make it 2-1.
The Broncos would find the equalizer six minutes into the second period, tying the game at two.
Argos would retake the lead two minutes later when senior
Braden Bain received the pass from Alger and Stevenson for his third goal of the season.
The Broncos would not go away scoring a goal with seven minutes remaining in the second period to tie the game at three.
Argos would answer again two minutes later when freshman
Adam Husli blocked a shot creating a breakaway opportunity and despite being blocked on his first attempt, he was able to capitalize on an out of position goalie to retake the lead 4-3. Â
UP would extend their lead after a turnover by the Broncos was corralled by Alger who beat the goaltender to make it 5-3.
Argos would score another at the end of the second period when an outlet pass from freshman
Chris Fines found Husli who then found freshman
Jamal Kalaf for his first goal of the season.
The Broncos would cut into the lead six minutes into the third period, but the Argos would respond when freshman Zach Bolton's shot was redirected off a defender into the back of the net making it 7-4.
Despite late pressure by Boise State, the Argo defense stood strong winning the game 7-4. Â
The Argos will be back in action Oct. 5 when they host Weber State University. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Great Falls Ice Plex.
