GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated #12 University of Montana 3-1 Friday night.
The Argos (12-4) would score the first goal of the game when freshman
Elliott Venini rebounded junior
Trevor Checketts slap shot from the point to give UP a 1-0 lead.
UP would have another chance late in the first period when on a 2-1 break senior
Jakob Stevenson found Venini in the slot, but his one-timer was stopped by the Grizzles (15-13) goaltender. Â
In the second period, UP took advantage of a turnover in the neutral zone by the Grizzlies and freshman
Colby Friedrich found freshman
Adam Husli whose wrist shot beat the goaltender to put the Argos ahead by two.
With one second left in the period, senior
Dante Montgomery found Stevenson streaking to the net and his shot from the point extended the Argo lead to three heading into the final 20 minutes.
The University of Montana would add a goal in the third period but it would not be enough as the Argos defeated the Griz 3-1.
The Argos will be back in action Jan. 20 when they visit #12 University of Montana in Missoula, Mont. Â Puck drop is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at the Glacier Ice Rink. Â Â
