1/20/2024 11:06:00 PM

MISSOULA, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program won their eighth game in a row Saturday night defeating #12 University of Montana 4-3.

The Argos (13-4) scored the first goal of the game when on a five on three advantage, freshman Colby Friedrich grabbed the loose puck and found freshman Zach Fulton in front of the net for a chip in goal.

A few minutes later the Grizzles (15-14) would answer on the powerplay when the puck ricocheted into the back of the net to tie the game at one.

Both teams would go back and forth for the rest of the period but neither team was able to find a goal.

The University of Montana would take their first lead of the game when a pass from behind the net found a Griz attacker whose one-timer beat the goaltender.

A few minutes later the Argos would answer when on the powerplay senior Ty Alger's backhand pass found Friedrich whose one-timer found the corner of the goal to tie the game at two.

With eight minutes left in the period the Grizzlies would score another go-ahead goal when a wrist shot from the point was tipped in by a Griz attacker in front of the net.

The Argos would tie the game at three five minutes later when Friedrich found the loose puck in the offensive zone and his wrist shot found the back of the net for his second goal of the game.

Midway through the third period senior Jakob Stevenson put the Argos in front when his sliding one-timer off the rebound beat the goaltender.

Despite late pressure from the Grizzlies, UP would hold on for their seventh victory in a row defeating #12 University of Montana 4-3.

The Argos will be back in action Feb. 1 when they host #1 Montana State University in Great Falls. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Great Falls Ice Plex.
