HELENA, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated Montana State 3-3 (2-1) in overtime Friday night.
The Bobcats scored the opening goal of the contest seven minutes in, but the Argos would answer with six minutes remaining in the period on the power play sophomore
Jamal Kalaf found junior
Colby Friedrich in front of the net who pushed the puck past the goaltender to tie the game at one.
Both sides would threaten the rest of the period, but neither were able to capitalize as UP went into the break tied at one.
The Argos opened the scoring in the second period when junior
Adam Husli toe dragged around a defender and went top corner with a wrist shot to beat the goaltender and give UP a 2-1 lead.
Montana State scored a pair of goals to retake the lead 3-2, but with just over three minutes remaining on the powerplay sophomore
Chavez Constant's slapshot from the point went over the goaltender's glove and into the back of the net to tie the game at three.
Both sides would have chances the rest of regulation, and in overtime, but neither team was able to put the game winner across as UP headed to a shootout tied at three.
In the shootout sophomore
Paul Jarvis saved the first Bobcats shot and junior
Adam Husli would bury his attempt to put UP ahead 1-0. Following a goal from MSU and a miss from UP, Jarvis denied Montana State's final attempt before Constant would be the hero once again beating the goaltender and handing the Bobcats their first loss of the season.
The Argos will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 19 when they host Montana State. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Great Falls, Mont. Â
