Argos Defeat Arizona State at Beehive Showcase

11/22/2024 7:05:00 PM

LOGAN, Utah – The University of Providence hockey program defeated Arizona State 4-2 Friday night.

The Argos (14-5) scored the first goal of the contest just over four minutes into the game when senior Brett Janssens shot the puck in front of the net and sophomore Jamal Kalaf pushed it past the goaltender to put UP in front 1-0.

With five minutes remaining in the period the Argos scored again when on the powerplay the loose puck trickled out to junior Adam Husli in the slot, and he buried his wrist shot to make it 2-0.

Neither side threatened the rest of the period as UP went into the break leading by two.

Arizona State cut the lead in half to begin the second period, but a few minutes later sophomore AJ Belanger forced a turnover in the offensive zone and found junior Fabian Vik for the one-timer to make it 3-1.

The Sun Devils cut the lead back to one to begin the third period, but a few minutes later a spinning pass from Husli connected with Belanger who beat the goaltender to put UP ahead 4-2.

Despite late pressure from Arizona State, the Argo defense stood strong as UP came away with the 4-2 victory.

The Argos will be back in action tomorrow for a match up with #8 University of Utah. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Park City, Utah.
