GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated the University of Montana 3-2 Saturday night.
The Argos (10-5) scored the first goal of the game nine minutes in when drop pass from freshman
Daniel Tainton went off the defender's skate and right to junior
Colby Friedrich whose wrist shot beat the goaltender to put UP ahead 1-0.Â
Montana would score with a few minutes remaining in the period as the Argos went into the break tied at one.
The Grizzlies scored one minute into the second, but the Argos would find the equalizer midway through the period when senior
Stanislav Struthers passed it to freshman
Fabian Vik whose one-timer found the back of the net to tie the game at two.Â
Neither side would threaten the rest of the period as UP went into the break tied at two.
Midway through the third a shot from Vik bounced off the goalie directly to freshman
Kage Yellowfly who buried his shot to put UP ahead 3-2.Â
Despite late pressure from Montana the Argo defense stood strong as UP defeated the Grizzles 3-2.
The Argos will be back in action Friday, Nov. 15 when they travel to Butte, Mont. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. versus Montana Tech. Â
