LOGAN, Utah – The University of Providence hockey program defeated #13 UCLA 6-2 Saturday night.
The Bruins would strike first but midway through the first period the Argos (16-6) would tie the game at one when freshman
Colby Friedrich found freshman
AJ Belanger in the slot whose wrist shot beat the goaltender. Â
The Argos would add another goal at the start of the second period when on the power play senior
Ty Alger dove after the loose puck in front of the net and pushed it past the goaltender to make it 2-1.
Less than a minute later the Argos scored again when freshman
Chavez Constant found senior
Jakob Stevenson whose one-timer went top corner to give the Argos a two-goal lead.
Midways through the second period the Argos made it 4-1 when on a two-on-one break Friedrich found a streaking Stevenson who buried the wide-open chance for his second goal of the game.
The Argos would not stop, scoring their fourth goal of the period a few minutes later when Friedrich's wrist shot snuck past the goaltender.
UCLA would add a goal in the third, but an empty netter from freshman
Adam Husli with under a minute left secured the 6-2 victory for the Argos.
The Argos will be back in action tomorrow for the final round of the West Regional in Logan, Utah. UP will face the lowest remaining seed for a trip to the ACHA D2 National Tournament.
