LOGAN, Utah – The University of Providence hockey program punched their ticket to the ACHA D2 National Tournament defeating #6 Loyola Marymount 7-4 Sunday afternoon.
The Argos (17-6) struck first in the 13th minute when freshman
Jamal Kalaf found freshman
AJ Belanger who beat the goaltender to put UP in front 1-0.
LMU would score a pair of goals to take the lead, but senior
Ty Alger would find senior
Tyler McCarry to tie the game at two heading into the second period.
Loyola Marymount would score a shorthanded goal to open the second period, but the Argos responded with three unanswered goals from freshman
Zach Fulton,
Colby Friedrich, and Kalaf to make it 5-3 after the second.
LMU would get within one, but Friedrich would find Alger who buried his chance to put the Argos back ahead by two.
Despite late pressure from LMU, senior
Jakob Stevenson added an empty net goal as the Argos punched their ticket to the ACHA D2 National Tournament defeating Loyola Marymount 7-4.
The Argos will be back in action March 11-15 at the ACHA D2 National Tournament in Maryland Heights, Missouri at the Centene Community Ice Center.
