Argos Face MSU-Denver for Season Opener

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's hockey program opens their season with three games on Sept. 27-29. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. against MSU-Denver on Thursday, 7:15 p.m. versus Colorado State on Friday, and 7:00 p.m. against the University of Denver on Saturday.

Last Season
The Argos finished last season with their fourth trip to the ACHA National Championships in the last five years. UP had a record of 18-8 and saw senior Jakob Stevenson set a program record in career points and was named an ACHA West Region Second Team All-American.

Returners
The Argos return quite a few contributors from last season's team including juniors Colby Friedrich, Adam Husli, and sophomores AJ Belanger, Jamal Kalaf, and Chris Fines. Husli led the team in goals in 2023-24 and was second in points with 28. Friedrich was tied for third on the team in points with 26 and Kalaf and Belanger were tied for fifth with 17 while goaltender Chris Fines started 13 games and had a save percentage of .927.  

Opponents
Last season MSU-Denver finished as the #4 ranked team in the West Region just behind the Argos #3 ranking. UP has never faced the Roadrunners in program history. Colorado State was ranked #20 in the West Region last season. UP defeated the Rams 2-1 in Logan, Utah last season in their first ever meeting. The University of Denver finished 23-24 as the #10 ranked team in the West Region and this will be the first matchup between the two programs.
