MISSOULA, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated #9 University of Montana 3-2 in overtime Friday night.
The Argos (18-8) The Argos scored the first goal of the game when
Daniel Tainton grabbed the loose puck and found
Kaden Bolter whose one-timer found the back of the net to put UP in front 1-0.
UP continued to dominate the time of possession the rest of the period but neither team could get a goal across as UP went into the break leading 1-0.
The Argos extended their lead to two to open the second period when on the penalty kill, Tainton found
Jamal Shaw who went top corner to beat the goaltender for a shorthanded goal.Â
The Grizzlies cut the lead in half midway through the second period, and despite pressure from both sides, neither team added another goal the rest of the period as UP went into the third period leading 2-1.
Both sides went back and forth throughout the third period until a powerplay goal from the Grizzlies tied the game at two with just under two minutes remaining.
The Grizzlies continued their momentum creating a one on one with the goalie but
Chris Fines stood tall securing a save with three seconds left to send the game to overtime.
In the three-on-three overtime Tainton's cross-ice pass found
Chavez Constant who beat the goaltender to give the Argos a 3-2 victory.
The Argos will be back in action tomorrow, Jan. 25 for another matchup with #9 University of Montana. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. in Missoula, Mont. Â
