GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated Williston State 6-1 Saturday afternoon.
The Argos (21-8) scored the first goal of the game when
Adam Husli sent a pass perfectly through the crease to
Colby Friedrich who chipped it past the goaltender to put UP ahead 1-0.
Both sides went back and forth until
Tobias Robinson sent the puck ahead to
Jonathan O'Brien who went top corner to extend the Argo lead to two.
Two minutes later the Argos continued their momentum sending pucks on net and Husli corralled a rebound and pushed it into the back of the net to put UP ahead 3-0 heading into the break.
UP stayed hot scoring two minutes into the second period when
Daniel Tainton passed the puck from behind the net to
Kaden Bolter whose one-timer went top corner to make it 4-0. Â
Williston would add a goal a minute later, but neither side could gain much momentum the rest of the period as UP led 4-1 after the second period.
UP opened the third with a pair of goals from
William Clark and
AJ Belanger, and despite a late pressure from the Tetons, UP cruised to a 6-1 victory in the regular season finale. Â
The Argos will be back in action, Feb. 6-8 when they head to Missoula, Mont. for the Mountain West Collegiate Hockey League Tournament.
