WESTMINSTER, Colo. – The University of Providence hockey program fell to the University of Texas 4-3 Friday afternoon.
The Longhorns scored a pair of goals to open the contest, but midway through the first period a wrist shot from the point from
Colby Friedrich on the Power Play brought the Argos (23-11) within one.
Neither side scored the rest of the period as UP went into the break trailing by one.
Two minutes into the second period the Argos found the equalizer when a slap shot from
Kaleb West bounced off the goaltender to
Daniel Tainton who chipped it past the goaltender to tie the game at two.
Both teams went back and forth throughout the second period but with under a minute remaining a slapshot from Texas got past the screened goaltender as UP went into the third trailing 3-2.
Texas added a goal to begin the third, but with just under five minutes remaining
Adam Husli found Friedrich on the two-on-one break and his wrist shot went five-hole to keep the Argos within one.
Despite the Argos pressuring for the final two minutes with an extra attacker, UP could not find the equalizer as the Argos season came to a close falling 4-3 to Texas in the West Regional.
