MISSOULA, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated #10 University of Montana 4-3 in the MWCHL Tournament Friday night in Missoula.

The Grizzlies (18-13) scored the first goal of the contest eight minutes into the game during a powerplay, and despite chances for both sides the rest of the period, UP went into the second trailing 1-0.

The Argos (21-9) responded to start the second period when on the powerplay AJ Belanger found the back of the net to tie the game at one.

With five minutes left in the second period the Grizzlies added another goal but 30 seconds later Colby Friedrich's pass from behind the net found Elliott Venini whose one-timer beat the goaltender to tie the game at two.

UP continued their momentum adding their third goal of the period when Colby Friedrich took the puck all the way himself scoring with a wrist shot that went top corner with 39 seconds left in the second.

The Grizzlies halted the momentum early in the third period with a goal off a turnover in the defensive zone from the Argos to tie the score at three apiece.

With five minutes remaining UP retook the lead off an across ice pass from Brett Janssens to AJ Belanger whose one timer went under the goalies blocker for his second goal of the game.

Despite late pressure from the Grizzlies, the Argos held on to the one goal advantage the rest of the way as UP defeated the University of Montana 4-3.

The Argos will be back in action Feb. 14-15 when they head to Helena, Mont. for the Montana Cup.
