MARION, IND. – The University of Providence women's outdoor track and field program competed at the NAIA National Championships at Wildcat Stadium on Thursday.
The lone competitor on Thursday for the Argos was freshman
Lauren Cima who competed in the Shot Put after placing 15
th in the Hammer Throw on Wednesday. Cima was sitting in ninth placing heading into her final throw when she threw 14.24m to jump into sixth place and earn her first career All-American status.
Cima also broke her own program record of 14.07m that she set at the Providence Open with her throw of 14.24m at the NAIA Championships.
Assistant Track & Field Coach Alan Cress on Cima's performance stated, "For a freshman at the National Championship, Lauren showed a tremendous amount of poise today in the shot put final. On her final attempt, after being bumped down to 9th place, she came up huge with a new PR, UP record, and 6th place All-American throw of 14.24m."
The Argos still have three athletes competing on Friday at the NAIA National Championships in junior
Travis Zavala in the Shot Put at 11:00 a.m. (MST), and senior
Tatiana Martinez and freshman
Lauren Cima in the Discus on Friday at 1:00 p.m. (MST).
