Argo Athletics Announces Two Teams Entering Hall of Fame Class of 2025

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence has announced that two of its all-time best men's basketball teams will be inducted into the Argo Athletics Hall of Fame in 2025.

The 1980-1981 and 1981-1982 teams will be joining Brad Beffert, Lindsey Abramson, Robby Tillman, Myles Mazurkiewicz, Craig Bonnarens, and Tosha Nunes as a part of the 2025 Hall of Fame class.

The 1980-1981 and 1981-1982 teams were comprised of Johnny Davis, Chuck Felton, Kevin Fuller, Martin Jones, Ray Johnson, Jerry Moore, Vic Nevins, Doug Robison, Jerry Schmitz, Robby Tillman, Stu Van Horn, Tony Woodlee, Kevin Patterson, Scott Thomas, Steve Aggers, Fred Schnell, and Kevin O'Connor and combined for a 52-12 overall record, 26-4 in Frontier Conference play, and were 31-1 at home.

The 1980-1981 team were led by Vic Nevins who led the Argos in scoring with 17.2 points per game and was second on the team in rebounds with 6.7 per game. Robby Tillman and Jerry Schmitz also averaged double figure scoring with 14.5 and 12.8 points per game respectively, and Kevin Patterson led the Argos with 7.2 rebounds per game while scoring nine points per game. The Argos averaged 84.9 points per game while shooting 53% from the floor and 70% from the free throw line.

The 1980-1981 team were 27-6 overall on their way to being Frontier Conference Champions and an NAIA District 12 Playoff berth. The Argos defeated Northern Montana College 95-59, Western Montana College 74-64, and Jamestown 80-68, before falling to Huron, South Dakota for the right to go to the National Tournament.

In 1981-1982 the Argos were once again led by Vic Nevins who led the Argos in scoring for the second straight year with 15.2 points per game. Robby Tillman and Jerry Schmitz averaged double figure scoring for the second year in a row with 13.7 and 10.4 points per game respectively and led the team with 4.4 and 3.8 assists per game. The Argos averaged 77.8 points per game while shooting 53.7% from the floor and 71.2% from the free throw line.

The 1981-1982 team was 25-6 overall, 14-1 in conference play, and 14-1 at home on their way to being back-to-back Frontier Conference Champions.
