MISSOULA, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated #13 Montana 4-3 Friday night.
The Argos (15-7-2) scored the first goal of the game when off a faceoff win senior
Stanislav Struthers gave sophomore
William Osika the puck and he skated around the defense before his wrist shot went top corner to put UP in front 1-0.
The Argos continued their momentum scoring a minute later when off a Grizzlies (12-13-1) turnover senior
Fabian Vik sent a puck on frame and junior
Adam Husli corralled the rebound and pushed it into the back of the net to give UP a 2-0 lead heading into the break.
The Grizzles added a goal midway through the second period but a few minutes later the Argos answered when on the power-play a shot from sophomore
Daniel Tainton bounced off the goaltender to Husli who buried his wrist shot to extend the UP lead back to two.
With just over a minute left in the second period the Argos pushed their lead out to three when on the breakaway Husli beat the goaltender for his third goal of the game and second hat trick of the year.
The Grizzlies scored two goals over the first eight minutes of the third period to cut the advantage to one, but the Argos defense stood tall down the stretch as UP defeated Montana 4-3.
The Argos will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 24 when they host the Grizzlies for senior night. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (MST) in Great Falls, Mont.
