GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated #12 Montana 6-4 Saturday night.
The Argos (16-7-2) scored the first goal of the game when just over a minute in junior
Adam Husli's cross crease pass found junior
Fabian Vik whose one-timer found the back of the net to put UP ahead 1-0.
The Argos continued their momentum scoring a few minutes later when senior
Jonathan O'Brien hit senior
Stanislav Struthers on his way to the net and he beat the goaltender to extend the UP lead to two.
The Grizzlies (12-14-1) added a goal with three minutes remaining in the first period to cut the lead in half, but five minutes into the second period the Argos got it back when Husli found junior
Jamal Kalaf in the slot and he buried his wrist shot to put UP ahead 3-1.
A few minutes later the Argos pushed their lead out to three when sophomore
Sam Duehlmeier sent the puck on net from the red line and it bounced past the goaltender to give UP a 4-1 edge.
The Grizzles added a power-play goal to cut the lead in half, but moments later on a four-on-four opportunity Duehlmeier's pass through the crease connected with sophomore
Kage Yellowfly and his one-timer found the back of the net to put UP ahead 5-2.
The Argos scored midway through the third period via a goal from junior
Elliott Venini to stretch the lead to four, and despite a pair of late goals from the Grizzlies, the Argos defense stood tall down the stretch as UP cruised past #12 Montana 6-4.
The Argos will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 31 when they head to Butte, Mont. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. (MST) versus Montana Tech.
