BUTTE, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey program defeated Montana Tech 11-2 Saturday night.
The Argos (16-7-2) scored the first goal of the game when junior
Elliott Venini sent the puck back to sophomore
Sam Duehlmeier whose wrist shot from the blue line got past the screened goaltender to put UP ahead 1-0.
The Argos continued their momentum scoring a few minutes later when junior
Chavez Constant found senior
Colby Friedrich headed towards the net and his wrist shot found the back of the net to extended the UP lead to two.
Just over a minute later the Argos added another pair when senior
Jonathan O'Brien netted a breakaway and thirty seconds later Duehlmeier buried a wrist shot from the slot to give the Argos a 4-0 lead.
With three minutes left in the first period junior
Kaleb West skated through the defenders and deked the goaltender to push the Argo lead to five heading into the second period.
The Orediggers (12-12) added a goal to begin the second period but moments later a shot from junior
Fabian Vik bounced out to junior
Adam Husli who beat the goaltender to put UP ahead 6-1.
The Argos continued their avalanche adding another flurry of goals from senior
Brett Janssens, Husli's second of the game, and Duehlmeier completed the hat trick to put UP in front 9-1.
Junior
Jamal Kalaf and Vik added goals down the stretch, and despite a late goal from the Orediggers, the Argos dominated Montana Tech 11-2.
The Argos will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 5 when they head to Salt Lake City Utah for the Mountain West Collegiate Hockey League Conference Championships. UP will face #6 Utah in the quarterfinals at the Salt Lake City Sports Complex.
