HELENA, Mont. – Sophomore goalkeeper Kyra Dorvall gave a heroic effort to keep Carroll College off the board in a 0-0 double-overtime tie for UGF women's soccer. Dorvall returned to the starting lineup after missing some time with an injury, to save twelve shots over 110 minutes.
The first half wasn't the challenge for Dorvall and the rest of the UGF squad. In the first 45 minutes the Lady Argos played the aggressor, outshooting Carroll 4-1 and forcing the CC keeper into two saves. Both of those shots on goal came between the 32nd and 37th minutes with the first from freshman forward Kaylee Bartley and the second from junior forward Jessica Watts.
The Argos weren't able to convert on a corner kick near the 40th minute, and after that their chances were significantly more limited.
The second half was almost all Fighting Saints, and became Dorvall's time to shine. The Saints outshot UGF 10-1 but the Argos keeper and defense made overtime a necessity.
The first overtime period played similarly to the second half, with Carroll threatening to score only to have Dorvall turn them away with two more saves. The final ten minutes were almost as blank statistically as the final score, with the Saints managing the period's only shot.
The two shots on goal for UGF in the first half were added by just one more the rest of the contest by way of an 83rd minute effort from senior midfielder Chelsea Roughsedge.
The tie is the third of the season for UGF and puts the Lady Argos at 4-3-3 (1-3-2) on the season. Their next test will be another conference match, this time a home affair against Northwest University on October 16 at 1:30 p.m.
