GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Argo men's hockey produced their highest-scoring game in program history to earn their first home win and claim an 8-6 victory over the Williston State Tetons on Saturday.
The match opened up to a Tetons' goal as Williston State got on the board first to take an early lead, 0-1.
However, the Tetons' lead was short lived as 14 seconds later the Argos tied things up at one as Hirschfeld and Felt sent a puck to Hendrickson who netted the first goal of the match for Providence at 17:25 in the first.
The Argos added some insurance at 14:16 as Hendrickson fed Mack for the score to put the Argos on top for the first time of the game, 2-1.
Providence tallied their third goal of the match in the 11
th minute of the period to push the lead to two as Felt netted a puck delivered by
Josh Larson.
A little over four minutes later, Felt returned the favor as he and Hirschfeld sent a puck to
Josh Larson who netted another one for the Argos to extend their lead to three, 4-1.
The Argos continued to pile on the points as they tallied a fifth goal in the opening period as Felt handled a puck from Hendrickson to give the Argos a 5-1 lead after the first.
The second period was quiet until the Tetons netted their second goal of the night in the 13
th minute of the second period.
Less than three minutes later, the Argos responded as Mack scored an unassisted goal to put the Argos back up by four, 6-2.
The Argos were able to close out the second period the same way the first one ended as Hendrickson delivered a puck to Felt who scored to give the Argos their largest lead of the night, 7-2.
Williston State opened the third period with a goal at 15:48 to bring the deficit to 7-3.
Providence tallied their eighth goal of the match about halfway through the final period as
Gabriel Kwiatkowski netted an unassisted goal to give the Argos an 8-3 lead.
The Tetons attempted to rally back as they were able to net three goals in the final 10 minutes of the match, but the Argos stifled their offense in the final five minutes to hold on for the 8-6 victory.
