Great Falls, Mont. – University of Providence Head Men's Hockey Coach Jeff Heimel wanted to play a Division 1 team for a reason, and that was to help improve his team. Minot State University has won championships at the national level, but UP Argos held their own.  

"We wanted to test our student athletes early in the season, and we did," said Heimel. "I think we did we'll, even after the loss on Friday night."

The Argos found themselves down 4-0 Saturday night, at the end of the first period but things would quickly change.  To start the second period, Will Wright knocked down two goals and Levi Anderson and Taylor McCall punched in a goal apiece to head into the locker room for the last time tied 4-4.

The score 4-4 stayed unchanged the entire third period forcing sudden death overtime play. With 59 seconds into overtime, Johl Swedlo for Minot, scored his second goal of the contest. That goal lifted the Beavers to a 5-4 victory for their second win on the weekend over the Argos.  

The contest Saturday night was a real test for goalie Tristan Lewis. "Lewis played great. We had some break downs, but Lewis kept us in the contest. He came up with some big stops and we were happy for that," commented Coach Heimel.  "Lewis defended the goal with 37 stops on goal, but did allow 5 goals, 4 of which were in the first period."

The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Argos as they have three matches this week. Thursday night, October 24, 2019 at 7:30 PM they will battle with Utah State, followed with BYU, 7:05 PM on Friday and concluding the weekend on Saturday against Weber State with a start time of 7:05 PM.
