Great Falls, Mont. - The Cascade Conference announced Monday that
Ole Cloppenburg of the University of Providence men's soccer team has been named the Cascade Conference Defender of the Week.
This is the second time Cloppenburg has won the player of the week award this season. He is coming off a memorable performance over the weekend, scoring the
game winning goal against Eastern Oregon with minutes remaining to secure a 2-1 victory.Â
"He was up there from the initial corner," head coach
Matt Ball said. "Bryan Gonazlez did a great job of keeping the play alive and putting the ball back into the box. Ole, when he catches it he catches it very well. He just doesn't do it often enough. Thankfully for us he knocked it in with two minutes left."
Though his game-winning goal propelled the team to a win, his defense might have been of equal importance.
"Eastern Oregon was a solid game for him defensively," Ball said. "He really limited their quality opportunities and marshaled what they have, which is a very good attacking lineup. He didn't do anything wrong that entire game."
Cloppenburg will look to continue his strong performance when the Argos face off against undefeated Corban University on Friday at 1 p.m. at Argo Field.
