LOGAN, Utah – The No. 17 University of Providence men's hockey team fell in a hotly contested contest with the No. 7 Grand Canyon University Lopes on Saturday afternoon, 6-4.
Leo Felt led the Argos with a pair of goals for the second-straight game.
The Lopes took a large lead early as they tallied three goals within the first period to hold a decisive 3-0 lead during the first intermission.
Halfway through the second period,
Leo Felt got the Argos on the board as
Josh Larson and
Cody Hendrickson delivered a puck from the boards to cut the deficit to two, 3-1.
21 seconds later, Felt punched in his second goal of the contest.
Jeron Hirschfeld sent a puck cross ice to
Josh Larson, who delivered the puck to Felt at center ice between the two face-off circles to bring the Argos within one, 3-2.
Josh Larson tied things up at the 6:41-minute mark as he netted the puck following a pair of saved Hendrickson shots to close out the second period even, 3-3.
The Lopes extended their lead back to two through the first nine minutes of the final period, 5-3.
Kyler Mack cut the deficit back down to one at the 8:55-minute mark as he scored on an unassisted shot, 5-4.
Grand Canyon scored an empty-goal with 17 seconds remaining in the contest as the Argos opted for an extra attacker and pulled O'Brien, 6-4.
