HAVRE, Mont. – The #2 ranked University of Providence men's hockey team lost to #4 Montana State via shootout Saturday night in a neutral site game in Havre, Montana.
In a game watched by more than 700 people, the Argos and Bobcats couldn't decide a winner in regulation or overtime, so a shootout was needed to determine a winner. The Bobcats won the shootout 4-2 to secure the victory.
"I thought we played well," head coach
Jeff Heimel said. "We outshot them 53-26. We had a lot of scoring opportunities. We had a stretch of about seven minutes where we weren't super disciplined, but neither were they. It was that kind of a game. We only gave up two goals and put up 50 chances. That's what you want."
The teams were tied 1-1 heading into the third period. The Bobcats scored with 9 minutes left to take a 2-1 lead. Things looked bleak for the Argos until
Cooper Page found the back of the net with 3 seconds left to send it into overtime.
"We came storming back," Heimel said. "We pulled a goalie and tied the game. That was a huge goal."
"We did what we needed to do this weekend," he said. "We played well enough to win. The positives outweigh the weekend. Overall I thought it was a really productive game. We had a good weekend."
The Argos will next take the ice against Williston State on Jan. 24. at 7:05 p.m.
