GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The 11
th ranked University of Providence men's basketball team will look to get some revenge during a two-game road trip over the weekend.
The Argos (20-4, 8-4) have prepared all week to face off the top team in the Frontier Conference, #5 Lewis-Clark State (23-1, 11-1) on Thursday. On Saturday they'll face off against Montana Tech (14-9, 6-6), who is receiving votes in the
National Poll. They lost at home to both teams two weeks ago.
"It's going to be a battle," head coach
Steve Keller said. "This might be the toughest road trip in our league. Obviously LC is playing at another level at 23-1. They've handled us pretty easy right from the get go so hopefully we can go down there and compete."
Providence currently sits at 3
rd place in the
Frontier Conference standings at 8-4. Lewis-Clark State is atop of the league at 11-1, while Montana Tech is in 4
th place at 6-6.
The Argos are coming off a big weekend,
defeating Rocky Mountain College 88-79 in Billings on Thursday before
beating Montana Western on 100-85 Saturday. Darko-Kelly had a triple-double against the Bulldogs, and was two assists short of one against the Battlin' Bears. His performance over the two-game stretched earned him not only his
4th Frontier Conference Player of the Week award, but the
NAIA National Player of the Week award as well.
The Argos will need Darko-Kelly on his A-game against Lewis-Clark State. The Warriors lead the nation in scoring margin (26.9), scoring defense (62.5), three-point field goat percentage defense (29%) and three-point field goal percentage (44%).
"LC is so balanced," Keller said. "They have good size, they're athletic and they really play well together. They're a good basketball team. We have to try and guard them on the three-point line a little better than we have. We haven't done a good job of that. Hopefully we can score more than we've scored against them."
Providence will take on the Orediggers from Montana Tech on Saturday. The two teams have split their earlier matchups, with both road teams leaving victorious.
"Tech wants you to play their tempo," Keller said. "They defend extremely well. Offensively we have to find a way to neutralize that and be ready to score."
