GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence men's hockey team will play it's final games before the National Tournament this weekend with a pair of games against Montana State.
On Friday, the Argos (22-6-2) will travel to Bozeman to face the Bobcats. On Saturday, the Argos will return to Great Falls to play the Bobcats for Senior Night.
The two games will be the only two games the teams will play before the postseason. The ACHA announced earlier on Thursday that both teams clinched a bid to advance – the Bobcats will play in the regional tournament while the
Argos secured an automatic bid to Nationals. The Argos are hoping to continue the momentum they earned over the weekend after they
won the Conference Championship.
"They guys are going to be pretty fired up," head coach
Jeff Heimel said. "They've had a light week of practice. We went so hard for that four to five week period leading up to that conference tournament. These games are an opportunity for us to improve and get better. We didn't play a perfect hockey game at the conference tournament. Obviously you can't play a perfect hockey game, but until you're as close to that as possible then there's something to be done."
The two teams have met three times this season. The Argos have won two and lost one in a shootout. Most recently, the
Argos defeated the Bobcats this past weekend during the Conference Tournament.
"All of our games have been relatively close this year," Heimel said. "It's a fun rivalry to keep going. It's a good opportunity to end the season well."
Saturday night will also serve as Senior Night for the lone Argo senior,
Brendan Sedgwick.
"It's a really special thing to have him as our first senior in program history," Heimel said. "He's a good kid, hard-working in school. He works really hard when he's on the ice. He's done well for us when he's needed to step up this year."
