WHITEFISH, Mont. – For the second consecutive week
Zaccheus Darko-Kelly of the University of Providence men's basketball team has been named the Frontier Conference Player of the Week. It is the 5
th time this season he has won the award.
Darko-Kelly had two consecutive 35-point games this week. In a
loss to #5 Lewis-Clark State on Thursday, he recorded 36 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. He followed that with a season-high 37 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 assists
against Montana Tech on Saturday. He shot 14/18 against the Orediggers, including 3/3 from beyond the arc.
"You put up those numbers you're obviously playing pretty good," head coach
Steve Keller said. "He has really been playing at a high level the last couple weeks. He's doing what he's capable of doing consistently and it's making our team better. He got 37 points on 18 shots. That's incredible, and he still gets the ball to open guys. He's playing at a very, very high level. Hopefully he keeps it up."
The performance comes a week after Darko-Kelly was named the
NAIA National Player of the Week after recording his first career triple-double
against Montana Western. He was two assists short of a triple-double in a
game against Rocky Mountain earlier in the week.
With four games left in the season, Darko-Kelly leads the
Argos in all statistical categories, and is ranked in the
Top 5 in the Frontier Conference in all statistical categories. He currently averages 23.0 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 5.6 apg, 2.3 spg and 1.5 bpg while shooting 54% from the field, 46% from beyond the arc and 82% from the line.
Before the game on Saturday, Darko-Kelly was announced as
one of 50 finalists for the Bevo Francis Award, an award given to the top small college basketball player in the country. The list will be shrunk to 25 players on March 15 before a winner is chosen in April.
Darko-Kelly and the Argos will return to Great Falls Friday when the team takes on Montana Western at 7:30 p.m.
