Sanchez Named Frontier Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week

WHITEFISH, Mont. – Two days after qualifying for Nationals, Jillian Sanchez has been named the Frontier Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

At the Stinger Open in Spearfish, South Dakota, Sanchez recorded a mark of 15.9 meters in the women's weight throw. Her throw also broke the record for the top women's weight throw in University of Providence history. She also broke a personal record in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.21 meters, a throw that places her third in the Providence record books.

"Those are pretty big accomplishments," throws coach Alan Cress said. "Getting a personal record is a big accomplishment, but to perform at that high of a level in the last meet of the season takes tremendous effort. I'm really happy for her."

Sanchez has spent the past few weeks touching her up to technique to give her an edge in her quest to clinch a bid to Nationals.

"She's worked really hard on polishing her technique," Cress said. "She's been a little sharper. It's a well-deserved award for all that hard work."

Sanchez will compete in Brookings, South Dakota for the National Championships from March 5 – 7.
