Argo Softball Looks to Rebound Against Yotes

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence softball team looks to get back on track this weekend when they host College of Idaho in a pair of double-headers this weekend.

The Argos (0-4, 0-4), who didn't start practicing until January due to undergoing virtual learning in the first semester, lost all four games to #7 Oregon Tech this weekend. Despite the losses, the Argos have responded well this week in practice.

"Our focus has been to just refocus our goals to be a little smaller," head coach Joey Egan said. "Let's get that first out, let's put the ball in play. Those simple things that we didn't do very well last weekend we've got to do better this weekend if we're going to win games. As long as they focus on the one step at a time and not too far ahead, then we'll be good."

Though it wasn't reflected on the scoreboard, the Argos did have a lot of positives throughout the weekend.

"We got better every game," Egan said. "We did the little things better every single game. We reflected and showed growth through every game. I think we're going to be quite a bit healthier as far as our pitching staff goes than we were last week. The girls have responded really well. We spent a lot of time talking through things and growing together. They really seem to respond well and want to higher their expectations and goals for every single game."

The Argos road won't get much easier. Though not ranked, the Yotes (11-7, 3-0) are receiving votes in the latest NAIA National Poll. They also have had a total of 18 games under their belt, compared to the Argos four.

"They're always tough," head coach Joey Egan said. "Their pitching staff is always tough and their coach is always tough to beat. He's very good and always puts together a very strong team."

The two teams will kick off their weekend series on Friday, Mar. 12 with a pair of games at 1 and 3 p.m. They'll continue on Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
