Argos Fall to Owls in Season Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence softball team opening the season with a double-header against Oregon Tech Friday afternoon. The Argos (0-2, 0-2) fell to the Owls (12-0, 2-0), falling 23-2 in the first game and 8-2 in the second.

In the first game, the Owls got up 3-0 in the first two innings. The floodgates came open in the third inning, where the Argos allowed 12 runs. Macy Mangold was able to get on the board in the bottom of the third, but the Owls scored 7 more runs in the 4th to secure the victory.

"The first game was rough," head coach Joey Egan said. "Our pitchers were not attacking the zone and we gave up a dozen or more free bases."

The second game was a little closer, but the Owls still managed to put runs on the board in each of the first five innings. McKenzie Staats and Peyton Elliot were able to get on the board for the Argos, but the Argos couldn't overcome the Owls, falling 8-2.

"The second game we regrouped and played a bit better," Egan said. "We're still just getting our cob webs off after being off for over a year. Hopefully we respond tomorrow."

The Argos will take on the Owls in a Saturday double-header, with the games taking place at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
