KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The University of Providence volleyball team yet again received their highest ranking in program history, this time coming in at #9 in the latest
NAIA National Poll.
The Argos (14-2, 1-0) moved up one spot in the rankings, having previously been
ranked #10. The Argos have proven they are competitive at the top level, having gone 7-2 against teams either ranked of receiving votes in the poll.
"I'm really excited," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "Every time you move the needle a little bit, it's hard not to get excited. Knowing how many years of service and hard work have been put in, you get to see it get better and better. It's exciting from a coaches' standpoint. I know our players are excited about it. Now it's our job to keep it and get it even higher."
The Argos have been rolling as of late. The team is currently in the midst of a seven-game winning streak, with their last loss coming
at the hands of #12 Bellevue on Sept. 10.
The team knows that a high ranking comes with a target on their back. So far, the team hasn't been phased.
"We've had a target on our back for the last couple of years so I don't think it's anything new there," Duda said. "We know that because the ranking is significant, teams are going to play a little bit better trying to knock off a ranked team. There are such good healthy rivalries in the Frontier that I think that adds to it as well. We know the stakes are high every time we step on the court. The girls are handling it really well and responding to everything that's thrown at us every step of the way."
The Argos will look to continue their hot streak tonight, with their first home of the season. The Argos will host a host a
white-out game against Montana State-Northern, with serve scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. MTN.
"I'm really excited for tonight," Duda said. "Our girls aside, I've been waiting for fans in the stands. I can't wait for it to happen. This is our gym, our fans. We're excited. Hopefully it'll be a packed and have a great atmosphere. Providence has one of the best gyms to play in with crowd noise. We can't wait to get back to it."
The University of Providence athletic department is very excited to have our fans returning to campus next week and in preparation for Argo Athletic Events, we want to reach out and communicate that we highly recommend and enthusiastically encourage that all spectators wear a face mask while in the McLaughlin Center. We strongly believe this to be a responsible and respectful request in consideration of all who attend.
