GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence women's soccer team will look to use momentum from last weekend as they prepare for a tough home stand this weekend.
The Argos (1-5, 1-2) will take on #24 Oregon Tech on Friday at 3:30 p.m. before taking on Southern Oregon on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. as well.
"It's always nice to be home," head coach
Heather Blandford said. "We're all looking forward to that home routine and playing in front of our home crowd."
The Argos are coming off their first win over the season after
defeating Evergreen State last Saturday. The win showcased the continuation of the team's effort on focusing on the foundational pieces of the game.
"We've been focusing on those little things still," Blandford said. "We're still working on those tactical things that are going to continue to get us to improve as a team moving forward. We're still really focusing on that foundation that is going to prepare us forward in the future."
The team knows that they'll have a tough task at hand this weekend. The Owls (5-2, 2-1) are known for their stout defense, having recorded two shutouts on the year. The Raiders (4-3-1, 2-1) are a quality side as well, having beaten the Owls already on the season.
"We got two quality opponents that we're going to see this week," Blandford said. "For us, it's exciting. We get to be at home. We get to play quality competition that is only going to continue to help us grow and improve as a team as we're moving forward. These games, though they're challenging, we want them. We want the opportunity to play these higher quality teams. We want to see where we are as a team but also see where we need to get to."
Despite the challenges, the Argos have a lot to build off of. The Argos are coming off their best complete game. Their offense, which featured a deep goal from midfielder
Megan Haugen, created nine shot attempts on the day behind a solid backline that prevented the Geoducks from scoring.
"We're hoping to ride the wave of that success we found last weekend," Blandford said. "We want to continue to build that confidence that came with getting our first shut out and getting our first win."
