Argos Prepared for Weekend Series Against Warriors

3/31/2022 3:03:00 PM

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence softball team will hit the road yet again this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders against Corban. The Argos (0-18, 0-12) will take on the Warriors (12-22, 6-10) on Friday at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. MTN and on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. MTN.

The Argos spent a majority of their time in practice this week focused on hitting. After recording just eight hits in the first doubleheader against Eastern Oregon last weekend, the team recorded a total of 19 hits on Saturday.

"We worked on a lot of individual things when it comes to hitting," head coach Joey Egan said. "We focused on their approach to the plate. We've got a couple of hitters that have been carrying a lot of the weight."

One of those hitters is Taylor Mathews, who leads the team in batting average (.389), slugging percentage (.500), on-base percentage (.411) and hits (21). She recorded three hits in each of the team's two games on Saturday last weekend.

"She has been carrying us offensively," Egan said. "We're going to continue to need her to produce at that level. We need a few more people to step up so that we can get a few more runs across the board. That's definitely been the emphasis."

The team is prepared for the balanced attack that the Warriors are known for. The Argos also know the Warriors will be fired up after getting swept in their series against The College of Idaho last weekend.

"They've always been a very competitive team," Egan said. "They have a great pitching staff and they hit the ball well. As long as we continue to play good defense and grow each game I think that we will be okay."
