GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Four players from the University of Providence softball team have been named to the U.S. Bank Academic All-Conference team, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced on Tuesday.

Macy Mangold (biology), Taylor Mathews (elementary education), McKenna Montgomery (forensic science) and Jaelena Trujillo (exercise science) all received Academic All-Conference recognition.

"I'm very proud of those girls for persevering through all the difficulties of being a student-athlete and still getting it done in the classroom," head coach Joey Egan said. "They're all leaders on the field. They show up early, stay late. They're committed to everything they do. The fact that they're getting it done in the classroom doesn't surprise me at all."

To earn recognition as an All-CCC Academic honoree, a student-athlete must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 and be at least a sophomore in standing.

The coaching staff targets student-athletes with academic success in the recruiting process, as they believe it helps improve the on-field play.

"We're students before we're athletes," Egan said. "Getting these students this award is very important to us in our program. We want to continue to strive to do well in the classroom, as those habits in the classroom usually translate into better habits when it comes to getting better at softball."

The Argos will return to the field this weekend with another four-game series against Warner Pacific. The first game will begin on Friday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. MTN.
