Argos Prepared for Road Series Against Knights

4/21/2022 2:26:00 PM

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence is prepared for their final road series of the season, as they take on Warner Pacific in a four-game series this weekend. The first game against the Knights (5-31, 2-21) will begin at 2:00 p.m. MTN on April 22 in Portland, Oregon.

The series precedes a busy final week of competition for the Argos (2-30, 1-22) next week. The team will take on Carroll College in Helena on Tuesday for a double-header before returning home on Thursday for a four-game series against #7 College of Idaho.

"We're very excited that our final games are at home and not have to travel next weekend," head coach Joey Egan said. "This trip is bittersweet because for the eight girls on our team who are graduating, it might be their last road trip. We want to make sure it's a fun experience and we want to send them off in a good way."

The squad is looking to rebound after a disappointing showing last weekend against #2 Oregon Tech. To do so against the Knights, who are right above the Argos in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings, the team will need to get production from right fielder Taylor Mathews, who has recorded a total of 10 hits over the past two weeks.

"Taylor has been the most consistent player in our lineup," Egan said. "Defensively she's been a solid player as well. We've had a lot of players step up lately and support us so we're going to continue to need that. Carter as a pitcher has been incredible for us. We're going to need everyone's best efforts this weekend."

The Argos are going up against a Knights squad that comes into the matchup with a 12-game losing streak. The Knights will be playing their final home games of the season against the Argos, so the home team will have plenty of motivation.

"They're a solid team," Egan said. "They put the ball in play. They don't have a ton of strikeouts. They have speed. They don't have a ton of high-scoring games against them. They're pretty good about keeping their runs down."
