GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence softball team is prepared for a big week as the team prepares to wrap up their regular season.
The Argos (4-31, 3-23) will play their final games of the season this Thursday and Friday, when the team hosts #7 College of Idaho. Before then, the squad will travel to Helena on Tuesday for a doubleheader against Carroll College.
"Games against Carroll are the best," head coach
Joey Egan said. "Promoting Montana softball is always fun. It's nice to be able to play close to home and see a lot of Montana kids on the ball field."
The squad comes into the series on a two-game winning streak after
beating Warner Pacific twice on Saturday. After
falling to the Knights (6-33, 4-23) by one run in extra innings, the team won the next two game to win the weekend series.
"They fought, they played hard, they didn't give up," Egan said. "We lost the first game in extra innings, which usually takes a big toll and makes it hard to recover from. They did it and they bounced back. I was very proud of them."
The team's hitting has improved steadily throughout the season. The Argos generated a total of 45 hits against the Knights, more than they have in any other series this season. The coaching staff hopes that their recent momentum has given the team confidence ahead of the rivalry matchup against the Saints (12-28, 9-17), who enter the game on a six-game losing streak. The two teams have met previously this season, with the
Saints beating the Argos twice on April 6.
"It does give us some confidence going into the Carroll games," Egan said. "We've seen them before and we competed well. We've been getting better and better every game so they're more prepared to compete and win. The key is to just play with confidence. If they let the game come to them and not push too hard or try to force anything then we'll be good."
The first game against the Saints will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
