Lady Argo Defense Plays Well in 1-0 Loss to Rocky Mountain

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – UGF women's soccer put in a solid defensive performance against a talented Rocky Mountain College team, but couldn't quite find the finishing touch in 1-0 loss.

The first ten minutes saw each team with a quality look at the net, including a shot from sophomore forward Grace Ibsen that beat the oncoming keeper but went wide of the net. Ibsen's shot came off a ball from freshman midfield Sarah Howell, who put in a number of dangerous crosses for the Lady Argos throughout the game.

It was the Battlin' Bears, however, who got on the scoring end of a cross in the twentieth minute. The ball came from the left endline and found the head of an RMC player. Rocky Mountain continued to threaten offensively throughout the rest of the first half, outshooting the Argos 8-3, but UGF was able to fend off their other efforts.

The second half saw the Argos offense pick up the intensity, as substitute midfielder Chelsea Roughsedge and the rest of the team outshot the Bears 5-3 in the final 45 minutes. The senior also managed to get off one of the team's two shots on goal, with the other coming from junior Katie Bennett.

Outside of the game's only goal, the Lady Argo defense held strong, only allowing three other shots on goal, all of which sophomore keeper Kayla Gray saved.

"I thought we played well, I really did," head coach Brian Clarke said. "We just couldn't get that final finish."

The Argos look to end a three-game skid as they play the College of Idaho at home on October 3 at 3:30 pm.
