GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Locked in a tight race for the second seed in the conference, the 11
th ranked University of Providence men's basketball team looks to take advantage of a two-game home stand this weekend.
The Argos will take on Montana Western Friday night at 7:30 p.m. followed by a home game against Rocky Mountain on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to
"Pack the Place in Pink" in support of breast cancer awareness.
"These games are huge," head coach
Steve Keller said. "We have three out of our last four at home now. We always talk about winning our home games. We just have to take care of business with our home games. We have four games left and our goal right now is to win all of them. If we win all four we'll be in second, no matter what happens. We really control our own destiny."
The Argos (21-5, 9-5) are a half game behind #19 Carroll College (19-8, 10-5) in the
Frontier Conference standings. Carroll travels to #3 Lewis-Clark State (13-1, 25-1) on Saturday.
Providence has defeated both Montana Western (11-14, 4-10) and Rocky Mountain (7-17, 1-13) twice this season, but head coach
Steve Keller is encouraging his team not to overlook them.
"You can't overlook them," he said. "They're going to come in here and they're going to play hard. It's not going to be easy. They're going to compete. They're trying to get wins for their program. We're not overlooking either one of them. We just have to take them one at a time and see what happens."
The Argos have improved their offensive efficiency in the last two weeks by moving
Zaccheus Darko-Kelly to the point guard position. In the last four weeks, Darko-Kelly has averaged 31.3 ppg, 9.8 rpg and 7.3 apg on 61% shooting and 56% shooting from beyond the arc.
For his performance, Darko-Kelly won
two straight Frontier Conference Player of the Week awards. He also was named the NAIA Player of the Week in
back to back weeks. Before the game against Montana Tech, he was named
one of 50 finalists in consideration for the Bevo Francis Award.
"Putting Z at the point changed the dynamic of our team offense tremendously," Keller said. "Hopefully we're starting to peak at the right time. Everybody is learning spots the past four games and it's actually been pretty good."
