WHITEFISH, Mont. – After taking down two conference opponents on the road this past week, two University of Providence volleyball players were named the Erck Hotels Frontier Conference Players of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Cydney Finberg-Roberts was named the Frontier Conference Setter of the Week, while
Jenna Thorne was named the Frontier Conference Attacker of the Week.
"I was really proud of their performance this week," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "I thought both of them really elevated their game. Going on the road, those were two really tough matches to close out the first half of the conference season for us. Hats off, they deserved it this week for sure."
Finberg-Roberts was named the Setter of the Week for the fifth time on the season, and the 14
th time in her career. The Columbia Falls, Mont. native recorded 39 assists in the
team's win over Carroll College on Tuesday, and 38 assists in the
team's three-set sweep over Rocky Mountain College on Saturday. For the week, Finberg-Roberts averaged a whopping 11 assists per set, and is
currently 12th in the nation in assists per set (10.84).
"Fin is doing a masterful job of moving the ball around, finding open hitters, playing good defense and serving tough," Duda said. "She's great in all aspects of the game and is a great leader too."
This is the third time that Thorne has been named the Attacker of the Week this season. The newcomer from New Zealand was a big part of the win against the Fighting Saints, leading the team with 18 kills on a .347 hitting percentage. She currently leads the team in both kills (229) and hitting percentage (3.42).
"In big moments, she's finding ways to come up and put the ball away," Duda said. "They were working really hard to front Sadie in a lot of situations. That took some attention away and Jenna was able to really get in there and get some big kills."
The recognition marks 11 total times the team has won a Player of the Week award this season.
Sadie Lott has been
named Attacker of the Week twice, while
Sacha Legros was
named the Defender of the Week on Oct. 4.
"They are playing really well together," Duda said. "Those same kind of names seem to be really leading the way week after week. Their performance is really staying consistent. I'm really proud of them for that. That's not easy to do."
The team will hope to continue that comradery when they take on Montana Tech for Pink Night on Friday. The game will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the McLaughlin Center.
