Argos Look to Bounce Back During Three-Game Homestand

11/10/2021 2:16:00 PM

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The University of Providence hockey team will look to get back on track this week with three straight home games. The Argos (2-2) will first take on Utah State on Thursday, followed by Weber State on Friday and BYU on Saturday.

The team hasn't played a game in two weeks, when the Argos suffered two home losses to the University of Mary and Williston State. The team's frustration was high after the losses, especially because of the high-level of play that the team demonstrated in the team's opening weekend wins over the University of Montana.

"These two weeks off were very important," head coach Jeff Heimel said. "We came down to earth a little bit. We made some mistakes. It was an important time for rest. We had tons to talk about but we just needed to rest for a minute and recover our bodies a little bit. Coming out of that it's been good to see the energy and the focus in practice. It's been much different."

On the ice, the team has spent the two weeks in practice addressing their breakouts, something that wasn't on point during the last two games.

"I think we struggled to make plays," Heimel said. "We tried to break down sections of our breakout and worked on the skills associated with making those plays and stuff like that. It's a good blend of just getting back on the ice after taking some time off last week. We're trying to address what we need."

The Argos will face off against some teams they haven't met in awhile. All three teams decided to take the year off last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so the Argos haven't played them in two seasons. The team knows how important these games are -  the team will play three of their five games left on their schedule this semester during this homestand.

"These games are big," Heimel said. "We're right at .500. If we have a good weekend we can put ourselves in a good position coming into the break. Three of those five games are this week. We want to show well and put ourselves in a good spot."

At the end of the day however, Heimel has focused the team more on improving their level of play and not worry about what the other side is doing.

"I would like to see our team do what we do better," Heimel said. "There can be some adjustments if needed, but I would like to perfect what we do well. I want to be a little more accountable to our style of play versus worrying about what our opponents are doing to us."

The homestand will begin on Thursday against Utah State with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
