#8 Argos to Honor Finberg-Roberts, Legros During Senior Day Presentation on Thursday

11/3/2021 11:07:00 AM

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Fans of the #8 University of Providence volleyball team will get their final chance to see the team play at home on Thursday, when the Argos (21-2, 8-0) host Carroll College at 7:00 p.m.

The night will also double as Senior Night for the team's two seniors, returning All-Americans Cydney Finberg-Roberts and Sacha Legros.

"We only have four games this year," head coach Arunas Duda said. "The opportunity for people to see them play is pretty special. These are two kids that we're going to remember for a really long time. They may be two of the best in their position that have ever walked on the court in our program. It's special for the crowd to come see them. What a great opportunity for them and great opportunity for us to say thank you for everything you've done."

The team is coming off an exciting road trip last weekend, where they topped Montana Western to clinch the Frontier Conference Regular Season Championship outright. It is the second straight season they've clinched the championship outright, and the third season in a row that the team has won it.

"That's a feeling that doesn't get old," Duda said. "It's something very rare to have the opportunity to be a conference champ. I definitely don't take it for granted. I feel very privileged that this group has fought for what they have and earned another one."

With two games left in the regular season, the team knows now is no time to let off the gas pedal. The team is currently ranked #8 in the nation and wants to get the highest seed possible in the NAIA National Tournament.

"We're just going back to that mindset that we did a good job but there are still some things that we need to improve week to week," Duda said. "We know the road ahead isn't going to get any easier. Even though we wrapped up the conference championship, there's still those National Rankings that were fighting for and we're still trying to climb towards the very end."

The game will also be a celebration of the decorated careers of the two seniors on the roster: Cydney Finberg-Roberts and Sacha Legros. The program will honor the two of them, who have won a conference championship in every year they played during their careers, in a special ceremony 10 minutes prior to the first serve.

"They're just winners," Duda said. "They understand what it takes to get it done and be on top, whether it's in practice, whether it's leadership; it's all the intangibles. They've just put in so much work, effort and time in the program. We appreciate what they've done so much. It's hard to measure what they've done for our program day in and day out. They've both meant so much to us."

Finberg-Roberts has had one of the most decorated careers as a setter in program history. She was third on the depth chart in her first season with the Argos, deciding to redshirt in an effort to learn the offense.

That year paid off as. Over the court of her career, Finberg-Roberts has shattered the program career assist record, recording 3,328 in her career, just seven short of being 1,000 assists over the next highest. She also holds the single-game conference record for assists in a game, recording 75 in a thrilling five-setter against Rocky Mountain College two years ago. She was named a 2nd Team All-American and the Northwest Region Player of the Year last year. In her career, Finberg-Roberts has won 15 total Frontier Conference Player of the Week awards, including six so far on this season.

"She's just been outstanding," Duda said. "She's one of those people that is still humble, still selfless and still does whatever is best for the team. She still comes in weekly to watch film with me to try and put her teammates in the best situation she possibly can. She knows all the little things that contribute to winning and make sure she's doing all of those things. She's just a pretty special kid. She's just a kid that gets it."

Legros will also go down as one of the most decorated Argos of all time. The senior from Verviers, Belgium transferred to the program three seasons ago as an outside hitter, playing a majority of her time in the front row. Midway through that season, the coaching staff recognized her talents in the back row and moved her to starting libero.

That move paid dividends, as Legros became the all-time program dig leader earlier this season, currently at 1,808 career digs. She had an astounding year last season, breaking the program season dig record (703) and leading the nation in  digs per set (7.4). Her stellar performance last year earned her Honorable Mention All-American status and a spot on the Northwest All-Region Team.

"I always knew she wanted to play libero but we had a pretty special one at the time," Duda said. "We made that flip towards the end of that season. It's kind of crazy to think about how in such a short amount of time she was able to become our program dig leader. She's a kid that sacrifices day in and day out, always puts our program first. She has the uncanny ability to just flip the switch. She's all smiles and friendly and then when she steps on the court she just flips a switch and is absolutely ready to compete and fly around the court."

The senior day ceremony will take place approximately at 6:50 p.m. prior to the match against Carroll.
