WHITEFISH, Mont. – Three players from the University of Providence volleyball team won Frontier Conference Player of the Week awards this week.
Cydney Finberg-Roberts was named the Setter of the Week for the second week in a row,
Sacha Legros was named the Defender of the Week and
Sadie Lott was named the Attacker of the Week.
"To have those three sweeping the conference awards is a true sign of how well the girls are fighting through everything we're dealt," head coach
Arunas Duda said. "Coach Drew and I talked a lot earlier about how pleased we are with our girls progress. We've only been going at it for a short amount of time but we've competed in every match we played. There hasn't been a match where we haven't shown up or haven't played to our level. Those three are a big reason why."
This is the
second week in a row that Finberg-Roberts has won the Setter of the Week Award. On Friday's
five-set win over #18 Rocky Mountain, she recorded 57 assists while chipping in 18 digs and six kills. On Saturday, she recorded 47 assists, 19 digs and three kills. So far on the season, Finberg-Roberts is 6
th in the nation in assists per set with 10.7.
"She just runs the offense so well," Duda said. "I was joking around with her the other day that we're going to have to buy her some track shoes instead of her regular volleyball shoes because she's flying around there everywhere out there. There's just a lot of maturity in her decision-making. She definitely deserves it again this week. We're proud of her."
Legros was everywhere defensively for the Argos last weekend. She had 49 digs on Friday night followed by 44 on Saturday. Through four games, Legros currently leads the nation in digs per set with 8.8.
"She just has so much grit and determination that she just wants to win all the time," Duda said. "We kind of took the reins off of her a little bit and told her even if it's not in our system a little bit, you go do what you have to do. If that's the result then she can always do that. She's playing great."
Lott has continued to impress the coaching staff. She's been dominant on the court, recording 20 kills and 27 digs on Friday and 17 kills and 26 digs on Saturday. What Duda is even more impressed with is how she carries herself.
"For a freshman, she certainly doesn't act like one," he said. "She's very mature on the court. She gives us a lot of different options on what we can do on our front row and back row. She's definitely deserving of the recognition because she does a little bit of everything for us. She has a great amount of character as well. She's awesome."
The #24 Argos (2-2, 2-2) will take on Montana Tech this weekend with a double-header. They will face the Orediggers (2-2, 2-2) on Friday night at 7 p.m. and Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
