Argos Eager for Revenge Against Battlin' Bears

GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Nearly a week after falling to the Battlin' Bears in Billings, the Argos are looking for some revenge.

The University of Providence women's soccer team (0-3) will take on Rocky Mountain College (3-1-1) in the team's first game of Cascade Collegiate Conference play. The game, which will kick off Saturday, Sept. 18 at 3:30 p.m., is a rematch of last weekend's non-conference game in Billings.

"They're a great side," head coach Heather Blandford said. "We knew that going in last week and we know that this week. For us to be able to reflect on the game we just played and now get to turn around and play them again is a lot of fun. We've looked at the things we've done well, we've looked at the things that we can improve on and have worked on those things. It's a fun test to be able to go out there with a quick turnaround and see how much we were able to grow in a week"

Blandford has been pleased with the team's response in practice this week. The Argos have largely worked on team concepts throughout the week in an effort to be more organized on the field. The team has also been preparing for the Battlin' Bears high-profile offensive attack, which has produced eight goals on 67 shots so far this season.

"We've been working on improving our team atmosphere," Blandford said. "On and off the field how can we be more united as a group? We've started that foundation there and translated that onto the field. How can we perform better as a team? Team defending, team attacking, how do we help each other? How do we become better teammates? How do we do those little things that are going to help translate to bigger and better things for us in the future?"

The Argos will also look to build upon their own offensive attack. After not scoring a goal all of last season, three different Argos have scored so far on the year; Dani Chang, Marti Ludwick and Cassidee Whitehead.

The game will mark the welcome return of a normalized CCC schedule. Last season, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference played a round-robin schedule. Because of the way the schedule worked, the Argos only hosted two home games of the eight total they played.

"It's been a long time since we've seen a normal conference schedule so we're excited to get to play everybody," Blandford said. "We're excited to be at home for the first conference game. This is what we've been building towards. We want to get out there and compete against quality opponents on back to back days. It's going to be a lot of fun."
